The Wicker Man
I bought this movie a few years ago, and this year I tried to give it another chance….it still failed. This was one of the its only $3.99 and Best Buy, I kind of wanted to see it, and if I rent it I will for sure have about $10 in late fees. I think that the movie is just not scary at all. I guess the only positive is there are some really good twists. But, for the most part this movie is still one of my least favorite scary movie.
The Wicker Man stars Nicholas Cage, as a cop named Edward Malus. It was released in September of 2006 and directed by Neil LaBute. A quick summary of the plot is, “A sheriff investigating the disappearance of a young girl from a small island discovers there's a larger mystery to solve among the island's secretive, neo-pagan community.” The movie is about a group of people who are part of a cult, and Edward Malus has no idea what kind of trouble he has gotten himself into until the very end. The Tagline is “Some sacrifices must be made.” The genre is horror, mystery, and thriller (this information is from the best movie database, IMDB).
This movie is made to look insanely scary; I did not even jump slightly while watching it. The website “Rotten Tomatoes” agreed with me and gave the movie only 15%. The original British version is so much better, and even creepier. It was made in 1973, and should have stayed that way, no remake was needed. One reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes actually said, “Neil LaBute’s utterly misconceived remake of Robin Hardy’s 1973 cult horror film is a boring, fright-free catastrophe.”
As I always….if you want to see a movie watch it. Even if the reviews are horrible, because you never know if it is going to be right up your alley.
