Some HalloweenParty Drinks

Some Halloween Drink Ideas..

I am throwing a 21 and over Halloween party on Friday October 31. There will be drinking involved, lots of cute Halloween decorations, and plenty of snacks. I thinking my drink theme will be red drinks for “Blood drinks” and then there will be come black and orange stuff as well. To begin since I am being a True Blood character, I want to order some of the new blood orange True Blood drink that is available. It supposed to be like the synthetic blood vampires drink on the show. Also, orange soda is a must for Halloween. It can be mixed with plain or orange flavored vodka. I would use regular and diet coke as the “black.” So many people have different alcohol preferences I plan on putting the True Blood cans on the counter in a cute set-up, with the orange and black soda in clear cute Halloween pitchers. I then will have a bottle of orange vodka, plain vodka, rum, and whiskey in a bar-like set-up at the drink station at my party. This way people can have just soda, or alcoholic beverages to their liking. I also have tried this alcoholic drink that involves sherbet for ice around Christmas time but I have figured out an adaptation for Halloween. Take a 2 liter bottle of lime soda, a 2 liter bottle of fruit punch, then add 1 cup of vodka (or add as much as you would like your guests to have), stir and then scoop in several scoops of orange sherbet. This is a delicious drink your party goers will love! Another cute idea is for Jello-shot put Halloween gummies in them such as little spiders or chewy eyeballs and an extra treat to chew on when taking the shot. Finally disinfect the little black plastic spiders and freeze them in ice cubes for the soda drinks. Just make sure guests know not to eat them!

Good Luck!

Party Problems? Answers here!

Confused on where to start when having a Halloween party?

Problem solved!

Here are some ideas to think about:
-Do you want to serve food?
- What type?
-A sitdown meal?
-If no food, do you want snacks?
-Will there be alcohol?
-If there is alcohol, is everyone 21? (meaning do you need soda too??
-What will the entertainment be?

Some answers:
- If you want to serve food a fancy sit down meal would be have hors d'oeuvres, an appetizer, mean course, and a dessert. Plan a menu. Your other two options are catering, which can get pricy, or serving a meal family style. When it comes to an affordable budget I would recommend family style of everything. Allows for more food options, and making the food will be cheaper as well.
- If you just decide snacks finger foods are always a great choice.
- When is comes to food whether it be dinner or snacks make things that can be done ahead of time and do not require a lot of attention during the party.
- What will you be serving beer, hard alcohol, specialty cocktails?
- If there will be underage people make sure to supply soda, water, or juice.
- The entertainment could be mingling, scary movies, really good decorations, and even a pre-recorded scary music CD.

These are just some questions to get you in the planning mood. We are getting very very close to Halloween so make sure you already have your invitations sent! Make sure you are insanely prepared, even make tons of lists if you need to, because if you are not totally prepare and ready to go before and during your party you will not have fun. You will be stressed and trying to play catch up and hostess all night.

Enjoy!

"The Black Gate"

Hello Blog Readers,
As I said before I would be back with my opinion on the rest of those cheap movies I bought as I watched them. Latest update I watched, “The Black Gate.”
Here is a little IMDB.com information about the movie:
First, IMDB barely has any information on this movie which should be red flags right there that this movie is going to be a horrible snooze fest.
It is also known as “The Darkening”
Released: 1995
Director: William Mesa
Writers: John G. Jones (writer)
Victoria Parker (writer)
Starring: Jeff Rector ... Scott Griffin
George Saunders ... Justin Reid
Rebecca Kyler Downs ... Rebecca Lacey
Red Montgomery ... Katherine

This movie was seriously almost more ridiculous than the Pumpkin Karver. One of the lead characters actually falls in love with a ghost and they end up kissing. The movie line is kind of confusing, and it is not scary at all. Its attempts to be scary are just thrown off by over-acting and horrible graphics, and even the make-up to make one character look like the devil is actually kind of funny. I truly understand why it was a $1.99 at Blockbuster. The back stories going on do not really work. I really wish I could have that hour and a half back on my life.
I would give the movie zero stars, while other ratings I looked at where not much hire. In 1995 they were making WAY better movies than this so I would recommend that you go and watch those! Sorry to disappoint in case you wanted to go try and by it and have a super cheap movie night.
Well that’s 3 horrible down, one more to go! I will let you know as soon as I watch that one.
Halloween is in 10 days!!!

Awesome Pumpkin Designs

Watching Halloween TV

So I was watching television today with my roommates, and we happened to come across the show, “Challenge” on the Food Network. The show Challenge is where they invite several chefs or competitors (episodes do not always have to do with cooking, but most do) to compete in timed challenges against each other for money when the final projects are judged and a winner is award a gold medal and a big check.
This specific show was “Challenge: Outrageous Pumpkins.” There are three rounds of competition: the traditional Jack O'Lantern (contestants get 30 minutes and up to 20 points), 3-D pumpkin carving (contestants get an hour and up to 30 points), and a free-style round where anything goes (contestants get four hours and up to 50 points). The contestants on this show were all professionals, and make money off of doing this for a living. I had no idea that people could do that.
The Jack O’Lantern round was just the standard pumpkin most people picture when they think of pumpkin carving. The rules state that each pumpkin has to have eyes, a nose, have the insides cleaned out, and a mouth. There was only one pumpkin I did not like, it was a play on words, “sorry to cut you off,” and the mouth was bars and the pumpkin was on a cell phone.
Round two was my favorite; they used giant pumpkins and did not actually cut all the way through, they more-so sculpt in the white of the pumpkin amazing and scary 3-D faces. A few competitors
The final round was just wow the judges with your pumpkins. It had everything from moving eyes to pumps that let out blood to a water fountain to ants stealing candy. I was wowed.

The Wicker Man

The Wicker Man

I bought this movie a few years ago, and this year I tried to give it another chance….it still failed. This was one of the its only $3.99 and Best Buy, I kind of wanted to see it, and if I rent it I will for sure have about $10 in late fees. I think that the movie is just not scary at all. I guess the only positive is there are some really good twists. But, for the most part this movie is still one of my least favorite scary movie.

The Wicker Man stars Nicholas Cage, as a cop named Edward Malus. It was released in September of 2006 and directed by Neil LaBute. A quick summary of the plot is, “A sheriff investigating the disappearance of a young girl from a small island discovers there's a larger mystery to solve among the island's secretive, neo-pagan community.” The movie is about a group of people who are part of a cult, and Edward Malus has no idea what kind of trouble he has gotten himself into until the very end. The Tagline is “Some sacrifices must be made.” The genre is horror, mystery, and thriller (this information is from the best movie database, IMDB).

This movie is made to look insanely scary; I did not even jump slightly while watching it. The website “Rotten Tomatoes” agreed with me and gave the movie only 15%. The original British version is so much better, and even creepier. It was made in 1973, and should have stayed that way, no remake was needed. One reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes actually said, “Neil LaBute’s utterly misconceived remake of Robin Hardy’s 1973 cult horror film is a boring, fright-free catastrophe.”
As I always….if you want to see a movie watch it. Even if the reviews are horrible, because you never know if it is going to be right up your alley.

I Bought Some New Movies!

Scary movie watchers,

Over the weekend I was out hunting for a few scary movies to purchase. First I started out by going to Best Buy because they always used to have really cheap movies, and I was really let down by their selection. The cheapest ones I could find were $8.99 for pretty old movies. Usually they have sales every week, but those were not on scary movies and still the cheapest of those was $6.99. I prefer to buy movies for $3-$5 because I know if I rent them I am going to forget and have late fees, might as well expand my movie collection. As I was walking out I happened to walk past a bin that said $4.99 and up, out of there I found a movie called “Lets Scare Jessica to Death.” Still have not watched it though.
After Best Buy we went to Blockbuster to see if they had any of the previously viewed sales going on. They actually have a great deal right now, for $25 you get two things of popcorn some soda and candy and 5 movies! I did not want to spend $25 though. So my roommate found “Ed Gien” for $3.99, and I found “The Pumpkin Karver”(yes, carver with a “k”), and “The Black Gate” for $1.99 each! I was super excited. So far we have watched:

Ed Gein:
Ed Gein is the person that both “Psycho” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” were based after. The movie itself sucked, the acting was bad, it was all unknown actors. The movie itself is quite old as well. The interesting part was to see what really happened because those were actual events and real people.

The Pumpkin Karver:
Horrible movie, doesn’t make sense. DO NOT WATCH IT! I actually laughed a lot during it more than I was scared.

More movie reactions to come!

A Fancy Halloween Dinnertable

Hello,

I have been searching for the perfect set for my table for my Halloween party this year. When trying to decide what I wanted I had to decide whether I wanted to cheap plastic table cloth, a vinyl one, or a more expensive cloth one that I could wash and could last me a few years. While checking out a few websites I came across some beautiful tablecloths you should definitely take a look at if you are having a dinner party or having guests over during this fall or Halloween season.
Here is the website:
http://www.grandinroad.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=4088&path=1%2C2%2C2759%2C2763%2C4088

Yes, yes, I know when you first look at these they are pretty pricey, and your thinking I am supposed to be giving you affordable Halloween ideas, but you have to think like I said before these will last a few years. I am sure you are also thinking that you do not want to repeat the same stuff year to year. But it is very easy to take a nice tablecloth and to make it look very different the next year using a different table setting and embellishments.

My favorite product of this website is:
http://www.grandinroad.com/jump.jsp?item=26758&maincatcode=null&subcatcode=null&itemID=5107&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C2759%2C2763%2C4088&iProductID=5107
This is such a good product because it makes the chairs so classy and festive and the tablecloth can just be a different inexpensive fabric each year. Yes they are $19 a piece but you can put these on your chairs this year, can be used as window coverings the next year. This is something you will not have to buy again as long as you take care of them and can be creatively worked into a new spot each year. Instead of the knot I would make a big bow on the back of each chair.

Hope you have a great tablescape for your Halloween dinner party this year!

An Awesome Decorating tool?

Halloweeners,

I have begun the Halloween decorating! October is here and I am so insanely excited!! Lately I have been doing a lot of research to find new products to help me decorate my apartment this year. Are you sick of using that cotton web stuff that always falls down or is hard to find surfaces that it sticks to. While surfing on the web I found this patent pending product that looks awesome! It is called “The Webcaster Gun.” I found it on this website:
http://www.hauntedfog.com/Pop%20Ups/Misc/webcaster_gun.htm

This is actually a gun that shoots out webs. Upon further reading I found out it is $49.99 but comes with 6 web cartridges. The only thing that I really did not like is if you click on the product you need to separately get an air compressor. I have no idea where you could go about getting one of those. It also recommends using fish line to support the web more if you want. Another fun aspect is you can actually get many different colors of webs!

There is not a whole lot of information provided about the product so before purchasing I would do some further research and see if I could find product reviews. This is not an extremely cheap product.

If you have the money you should definitely try this product out and let me know how it works because I am super curious to see if it really does make real looking webs. It you check it out it actually looks like a hot glue gun.

Feel free to comment with any decorating products or ideas you have found that would have worked for your decorating needs that I have not discussed yet in any of my blogs, many more ideas and products will be coming!

Thanks!
Halloween is in 24 days!!!

The Scariest Movie I have Ever Seen

The Ring
-remake of the 1998 Japanese horror film, Ringu.

Director: Gore Verbinski
Writers : Kôji Suzuki (novel)
Ehren Kruger (screenplay)
Release Date: 18 October 2002
Tagline: Before you die, you see the ring
Awards: 7 wins & 5 nominations
Staring: Naomi Watts
Martin Henderson
David Dorfman
Brian Cox
Jane Alexander
Lindsay Frost
Amber Tamblyn
(Information from: www.imdb.com/title/tt0298130/)

A very short Summary of the movie:
The film’s main focus is on a plain black cursed videotape which contains a random series of disturbing, somewhat gory, grainy, black and white images. After watching the tape, the viewer receives a phone call in which a voice condemns the viewer to death in exactly seven days. Any photographs taken of anyone who has seen the tape the people have blurry faces. No matter how hard people try to escape death, 7 days after watching the tape they all die and have a terrified look on their faces.

The tape was made because of this little girl named Samara. She is who comes out of the TV and kills people. The movie is centered around a girl Katie who dies in the beginning, her aunt, and her cousin Aidan. They all end up seeing the movie and its over 7 days to race to figure out how to stop Samara from getting them.

I do not want to give too much away if you have not seen it, so this is all I will say!

My opinion:
I am not saying that this is the best storyline of any scary movie I have ever seen, but this movie gave me nightmares for weeks! This movie was so scary the first time I saw it I think I covered my face and watched the corner of the screen more than I have ever done with any movie before. This is a GREAT combination of loud noises/thing popping out, psychological scariness, scary/creepy looking things/people, and gore.

A great Halloween party scary movie night movie:
I strongly recommend having a bunch of people over, making some popcorn, and watching this movie. Everyone will be jumping and covering their faces.
