Some More Halloween Cocktails
Yes, Halloween has passed and it is nowhere near this time of year. But, I hope I am not losing any guests because the whole point of Halloween bargain hunting it to think about Halloween all year round to be able to get the best deals possible. I know I have previously discussed Halloween drinks you can have for your Halloween party. I then got to thinking, since I am a young professional I may not want a dinner party I may rather have a cocktail party, or have a cocktail party to start the night then end up going out somewhere.
I happened to stumble across this website: http://www.drinkoftheweek.com/special/halloween.htm
Here are some drinks I recommend:
Cocktails:
These can be either mixed drinks or drinks such as martinis and other straight alcohols.
Recommended drinks from the above website:
Eyeball Martini
Hauntini
Pumpkin Martini
Pumpkin Margarita
Shots:
This are small portions (hence shotglasses) of mostly alcohol or all alcohol. I would be careful with having this option, people can get out of control faster, and some people may think that taking shots brings down the class of the party.
Recommended drinks from the above website:
Punches:
This is different juices, sodas, and other additives that can be made either alcoholic or nonalcoholic. If you are having a party with people who are not really into drinking I recommend this because you can make these quite weak (meaning instead of adding a whole 750 ml of hard alcohol only add a few shots worth). This is also a great option if it is a children’s party, or people with have underage guests.
Recommended drinks from the above website:
Black Punch
Jack O’latern Punch
Hot Apple Rum Cider
I will be writing more indepth on each of these drinks if you check out:

A dessert Wine for Your Halloween Dinner Party
Dolce Wine
Are you throwing a dinner this Halloween? Well an extremely important part of the dinner party is not only the dishes you will be serving but the drinks you have to go with them. You can make a delicious mixed drink, serve something non-alcoholic, or talk to a wine professional and serve wine that beautifully matches your dishes. I recently tried the most delicious wine I have ever tasted. It is called Dolce. This wine is not for the small budget. It averages $69.99 a bottle for 375 ml. Yes I know it is insanely expensive, and not a large bottle but it is a dessert wine therefore you do not need as much. You can give each person a small tasting with their dessert.
http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1042477&cid=TPV-Googlebase
This is the wines description based on the above website:
“Sweetness. Like the most sinful dessert in liquid form, the 2005 Dolce, from the folks at Far Niente, satisfies our craving for sweetness with some hidden surprises. A combination of late harvest sémillon and sauvignon blanc from the foggy town of Coombsville, east of Napa, the Dolce is Napa's Sauternes-style dessert wine, with its earthy, botrytis underpinning and joyful acidity. Wonderfully food-friendly, this will pair well with foie gras, poached figs, cheeses, chocolate or crème brulee. Or cellar and watch the wine evolve.”
This wine is good for people who do not really like wine. I myself am not a big wine drinker at all, and I happen to love the sweet taste of this wine. As stated above the wine is super expensive but I would not leave a bottle on the table I would serve one of the above recommend desserts (if you make crème brulee I recommend using orange food die to make it festive) and serve a small amount in a wine glass, describe the wine and put the bottle away.

Who Doesn't Love Pie
Some delicious Pie Ideas
Throughout the Halloween and fall season pie is a common thought in my opinion. On my website I have even given my own homemade recipe for Graveyard pie. I wanted to give some of you readers some pie ideas. To start a pie discussion lets discuss some different kinds of pies I can think of. There are cream pies: Chocolate Cream Pie, Banana Cream Pie, Boston Cream Pie, Coconut Crème Pie, and Vanilla Crème Pie. Then there are fruit Pies: Cherry Pie, Apple Pie, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Peach Pie, Blueberry Pie, and Mixed Berry Pie. Finally there are the random category pies, these include: Pumpkin Pie, Pecan Pie, French Silk, Peanut butter Pie, Oreo Pie, and Key lime Pie. Now that I have named all of the pies I can think of I want to name some things that I think accompany pie well. These include a big dollop of ice cream, whipped cream (I HATE cool whip), and simply a glass of milk.
Now that I have hopefully made you super hungry I wanted to give you a great pumpkin pie recipe:
Here is the classic Pumpkin Pie with a 3 topping twist- From http://www.pillsbury.com/Recipes/ShowRecipe.aspx?rid=47519
INGREDIENTS
Crust
1 Pillsbury® refrigerated pie crust (from 15-oz box), softened as directed on box
Filling
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 can (15 oz) pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)
1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
2 eggs, beaten
DIRECTIONS
1. Heat oven to 425°F. Place pie crust in 9-inch glass pie plate as directed on box for One-Crust Filled Pie.
2. In large bowl, beat filling ingredients with hand beater or wire whisk until well blended. Pour into crust-lined plate. Cover crust edge with strips of foil to prevent excessive browning.
3. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F; bake 40 to 50 minutes longer or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool 30 minutes. Refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving. Store covered in refrigerator.

Similarities between Halloween and Thanksgiving
I know in my previous post I compared Halloween to Thanksgiving and decided for myself that Halloween dominated Thanksgiving. I felt I may have been a little harsh on Thanksgiving after I clicked post. Therefore I decided I would try and find similarities in Halloween and Thanksgiving therefore Halloween may still be better but Thanksgiving is not horrible.
Now let us discuss these similarities:
Eating-
Thanksgiving may be completely consumed with eating, but there are also many aspect of Halloween that involves eating. These include the fact that there are tons of candies, cookies, and fun Halloween cakes sold everywhere. Pumpkin pie is a big pie for both Holidays. Halloween is all about dessert, but that is also a very important part of Thanksgiving.
Spending time with friends and family-
Most people do not have family parties for Halloween. But it is still a time to spend time with friends, children spend more time with their parents, and loved ones tend to gather round. This is even more so for Thanksgiving because you are giving thanks for everything you have including friends and family. Many people I know have family parties, and whether they be big or little both holidays allow for spending time and having fun with people you truly care about.
Nice Weather-
Thanksgiving has been notorious for some snow. But on average both Thanksgiving and Halloween have the perfect wear a sweater and snuggle weather. It is not too cold where you are freezing, or warm to the point of sweating. I call this “hoodie weather” because it is perfect for just throwing a hoodie on.
While writing this blog I decided this would be better off elaborated and written as a pillar article on my website. Check out www.affordablehalloweenideas.com , and refer to the pillar articles section for the full article.
Have a great break from work/school!!!

Which do you think is better?
Thanksgiving vs. Halloween
Which holiday do you think is better? Lets compare the two.
Halloween:
During Halloween you get to dress up in costumes, go out, throw parties, eat lots of candy, and watch scary movies. When it comes to costumes you can become whatever you want and go all out. You can wear amazing make-up, and most people become something or someone they have always wanted to be. The weather is usually a little chilly, but still quite nice. It is also fun to go out and see everyone else’s costumes, and see costume trends. Finally I like giving candy to cute little trick-or-treaters.
Thanksgiving:
This holiday involves watching lots of football, cooking all day, and eating your life away. Then relaxing for a few hours and then eating again. The weather is usually nice, but a little colder than Halloween. For most people Thanksgiving involves spending time with lots of family. The weather does not matter as much because most people spend this holiday in doors, and in front of the TV.
My opinion:
Based on the title of my blog you can guess what my favorite holiday is. There are several reasons for this. To start I love getting dressed up and putting on crazy and unique make-up. I LOVE scary movies, and eating candy. Finally my favorite part of the year is putting my Halloween costumes together (I usually have more than one). I do not like watching football very much so that part of Thanksgiving bothers me. The only part of Thanksgiving I truly like is the cooking. I love to cook all day long, and have everything taste my concoctions and tell me how I did. I am not even that big of a fan of turkey. So Halloween dominates Thanksgiving in my book!
Have a fun and safe Thanksgiving!!

Scary Movies I have no Seen
Halloween movies I really want to see right now. There are several I really want to see right now because I have been meaning to go see that but either have not rented them or am waiting till they come out on video. I am a college student with no job, in order to focus on school. I live on a small amount of money my parents give me each month, therefore it is hard for me to spend $9.00 on going to see one movie.
1. Saw 6- I did not like Saw 5, but it’s a pretty interesting series with lots of twists and turns so I do not mind just seeing it because there is another one. Plus I heard this was one of the better ones that have come out so far.
2. Fourth Kind- I like scary alien movies. Signs was awesome hopefully this one will be good as well.
3. Orphan- I thought this movie looked horrible when it first came out. Now I have seen some good reviews, and would like to give it a chance. Why not, it is at Redbox for only $1 a day.
4. Lets Scare Jessica to Death- This is the movie my friend and I bought awhile ago for the week of Halloween. All the other movies we bought were HORRIBLE, I hope this one is way better.
Hopefully at least one of these movies will be a good scary one. I do not feel I have seen a good scary movie since watching the Ring, which came out awhile ago. Does anyone agree with me? Do you know any scary movies I have not previously mentioned in any of my movie blog posts? Feel free to leave some comments, I will let you know, when I get around to watching these movies, how good they are.

Paranomal Activity Review
This biggest movie let down I have ever experienced.
I was one of the first people to request Paranormal Activity in my area. It looked so realistic and scary I was for sure it was going to scare the crap out of my and wanted to be able to see it before someone spoiled it for me.
The movie is filmed much like Cloverfield and the ever famous Blair Witch Project. I, unlike many others, LOVE this way of filiming. Yes, Cloverfield made me very motion sick when I saw it in theatres, but I think that extra creepy feeling one gets when it is truly hard to judge weather it is real film or just a Hollywood-made movie.
I digress, back to Paranormal Activity. The movie gets off to such a slow start. I was expecting to be terrified from beginning to end based on how scary they made the previews out to be. It has some super creepy parts that made you a little freaked out to be in your room the night of, but on the hole you were afraid for the last 5 minutes of the movie it ended and you were a little frustrated.
The actors: They were alright. I thought the female lead did not do a very good job of walking and talking creepy/ possessed. The male lead made me so angry the whole movie! All the problems could have been avoided without him. What a jerk, I would have for sure immediately broken up with him!
I’d give the movie 1 and a half stars because the previews showed the only real scary parts, and led you to believe the movie was a lot more scary than it truly was. Also a lot of questions go unanswered, and the movie abruptly ends. Maybe they are leading into a second one???
Let me know what you think!

Now is the Time to Buy
Hello Fellow blog readers,
I meant to write this post a little earlier but there is still time. Now is the time for all your Halloween shopping. If you want a pre-made costume go to Halloween express now and buy it everything is 40% off! You can afford what you otherwise would not have been able to. They only have this sale for like a week! As for other stores go check out there Halloween sections! I was in Wal-Mart the other day and their Halloween stuff was 80% off! What a steal. I got a lot of stuff and Joann Fabrics for 60% off which was awesome for me because it was the week before Halloween so I was able to use a lot of the stuff for my Halloween party this year. As I have said before an “Affordable Halloween Shopper” is always hunting for great deals, and looking for the sales to be the first to get to the product before it is all picked over.
Completely off subject of my post above:
I wanted to quickly review Halloween express. My friend bought $40.00 red sparkle Dorothy platform pumps. 10 minutes after coming to my Halloween, shoes broke. Well big problem with shopping at Halloween express is the second you leave the store, its yours NO RETURNS, NO EXCHANGES. I think this is crap. I would never shop there for a costume, shoes, anything except maybe some cheap decorations, or stuff on sale as stated above. There are plenty of stores that sell the same costumes this store has but the other stores will have return policies. Avoid this store because they really do not care about you or how much they rip you off. Also we went back to the store to see if there was anything they could try and do and they owner was unbelievably rude.
Boo!

My 2009 Costume Discussion
So this Halloween had a lot of interesting costume trends, clever ideas, and BIG flops in my opinion. As I have said many times before I am very opinionated and want to reveal to you all how 2009’s Halloween costumes went based on what I saw.
Here are my costume favorites of this year:
1. Octo-mom. This was by far the most clever, and my favorite. I only saw one, a girl wore a wig braided to look like her. Then she just had a bunch of baby dolls hanging everywhere. I could see this costume winning prizes that some of the bars are offering.
2. Kanye West. I loved having people bust into my conversations saying, “You Imma let you finish but, Beyonce….” Then just walking away. This was hilarious and clever I saw 2 or 3 of these.
3. I saw this Vages dance-esk costume with peacock feathers twice. It was a VERY pretty and sexy costume. The top was a corset with the feathers out the back when spankies and fishnets.
Costume Trends:
1. There were lots of police officers and security guards. I am bored with these and think they are unoriginal, but I saw like 30, so big trend as always.
2. Michael Jackson, I saw a lot of these but I was expecting that after his still recent death.
3. Pirates. These are another popular costume every year.
Costume Flops:
1. Girls in sleazy costumes who couldn’t pull it off. There are costumes made for every body type. If you are not perfectly fit wear a tiny costume that covers up problem spots. I saw lots of belly shirts that should have been regular shirts.
2. Guys in girls costumes. This was funy at first but the more I saw the more I thought, really you couldn’t come up with anything more clever?
3. Costumes with wings. I was at a few different bars, and all I could was run away from people with wings. It is so annoying to have them hitting you and getting stuck on you. If you are going to a party for Halloween, DON’T WEAR WINGS!

Halloween 2009
So Halloween has come and gone ….. how sad. I had a great party at my apartment, and then on the actual day of Halloween my friends and I took a trip to the bars. I thought I would give you all a little synapse of my Halloween festivities this year. To start on Halloween we had a party at my apartment. My roommates and I move all the furniture except for our two couches out of the living room to make plenty of room for the around 25 people that ended up coming. We decorated everything from the TV covered in spider webs to a strobe light hanging from the ceiling. Most of the decorations used were from previous Halloweens new purchases included Halloween cookies (on sale), the strobe light, Halloween cups (on sale), a table cloth (on sale), and a keg of beer. The total of new stuff bought was about $70. This was divided by my 2 roommates and I and my sister and friend. Which means the totally cost to each person was $14. This was extremely inexpensive if you include the cost of my costume which was $10.66 for fabric and thread, $7.00 for shoes, and $2 for flowers. Therefore this Halloween I spent around $35, which to be totally honest is lass than most people spend on their costume alone!
(Everyone at my Halloween party was 22 and over, I do not condone the selling of cups without a liquor license or giving alcohol to minors)
Hope you had a good Halloween. Check out my website for full story on everything about my party, some mishaps during, and maybe some changes I would make for next year! I am already planning, and have decided I want to be a super hero!!
